Hemochromatosis, blood donation, metallic taste, kokoretsi hack

As part of my introspection routine, I developed the skill to detect higher iron concentrations in my blood. This could be useful for those who suffer from Hemochromatosis, giving them a good signal to donate blood, a known therapy.

This is how I did it
  1. I fasted for 16 hours.
  2. I over ate organ meat (Kokoretsi/kokoreç) which is food rich in iron.
  3. I brushed my teeth and used a mouth wash.
  4. after a few hours, I went to the gym and performed intense exercise causing me to sweat.

I started to taste a metallic/bloody taste coming from the back of my throat. This is a sign that I use, recognize and associate with having higher than normal iron levels in my blood. I confirmed this by having my iron tested for free prior to donating blood.

  1. This is great stuff mate! How did you manage to find this out? I mean, as far as creating that step-by-step method? Should there be a particular mouth wash to use, like a branded one? In my case, I only use this generic mouth wash I got as a freebie from my cosmetic dentists in studio city, the one that doesn't have the sting. Or should the sting make a difference for this test? Appreciate your time mate. Cheers!
